  • Reminiscence Therapy

Storytelling at its best. Real life stories come back to life when sharing them with someone - written or spoken. Reminiscing is the act of remembering, sharing, and listening. It allows us to reflect on experiences and allows us to give the gift of ourselves to others. It allows us to know someone better and to see life through their eyes. Reminisce therapy encourages aging adults to explore positive memories from the past through conversation, memoir writing, connection with favourite objects and stimulating sensory experiences such as music, art, crafting, baking etc.

  • Windowsill Gardening

Indoor gardening is an answer for older gardeners who aren't as active or mobile as they once were. Window sills often provide ample sunlight for small plants, herbs and other flower gardens. The key is to understand that it is possible, and uses minimal amount of space. Indoor gardening for seniors can relieve depression symptoms, stress, loneliness especially while social distancing.

  • Music Therapy

A target-oriented and purposeful activity in which we work with individuals or groups using musical expression and the memories, feelings and sensations it evokes. Personalized playlists are created and instruments are used which bring many lively memories to mind. Music has a close relationship with unconscious emotions, providing a meaningful experience to the listener. Seniors are encouraged to create their own songs and music - helping with social and emotional and cognitive function.

  • Art Therapy

Strava Living Well utilizes art making to help seniors combat mental and emotional challenges as a result of isolation. The creative process can foster self awareness, promote insight and support cognitive function and other benefits for wellbeing. Led by a registered art therapist, the participant will express, explore and understand their emotions through a variety of art mediums. While some seniors may be familiar with different art forms, it may be a new hobby or type of treatment for others. Either way, drawing, painting, colouring, and sculpting can improve one’s quality of life.
